FAMILY GUY INTERVIEW 11 October 2008

Lee is an avid Kiss Listener and finds the station provides a fresh mix of music for him to tune into both day and night. A married father of two sons, his life as a policeman can be stressful and tiring – he doesn’t find much downtime to himself and music is a precious escape.

Lee Mood Sheet

(Above is a Kiss mood-sheet that Lee produced for a Kiss focus group showing what the station means to him. Lee is bottom left in blue).

Kiss listening habits

“I listen to Kiss at work and at home on my computer, which is great because I can download my favourite Kiss shows onto the iPod and play them later in the car.”

“When I’m on duty, I’m not really allowed to listen to music, but I work 12 hours per day so I have to get some time for the things that I like.”

“When I’m at home in the day with the kids and my wife, we have Kiss on because it plays mostly commercial stuff and that suits us all.”

“I’m the only Class 1 driver of the whole section at work, so when I’m at the wheel I’m in control of the music. Everyone I work with likes Kiss.”

How long has he listened to Kiss?

“I’ve listened to Kiss for about 5 years now. It used to be Capital when I was working with my old man in London, but it really got on my nerves. My mates told me about Kiss, so I switched to that and have been listening it ever since.”

Kiss and the family

“My wife’s a big R&B, hip-hop and garage fan, so Kiss suits her fine.”

“If the kids are watching CBeebies and I want to listen to the radio, then I’ll plug my headphones into the computer. That way, we’re all happy.”

Favourite things about Kiss

“Kiss sounds like a young person’s radio station and I like that…it’s young and fresh.”

“I don’t think that age should come into it when you’re choosing the music you like and a radio station to tune into. It’s all about taste.”

“My favourite DJs is Justin Wilkes. They play a decent mix of music.”

“I love Kisstory. I never get bored of the older tunes.”

Social Life

“I’m a huge Johnny Cash fan and want to go to Nashville one day.”

“I’m not a pub person. I like being at home and watching films and playing on my PS2.”

“I used to love going clubbing in Bournemouth in my younger days. It’s hard to say whether I’d have that carefree life back over the one I have now.”

“I used to be a marine scientist. I never set out to be a policeman. When I came back from travelling, I filled out a number of application forms for various jobs and that was the first one to come back with an offer for an interview.”

“Life’s hard now and the credit crunch isn’t making things easier. I work a 70-80 hour week and being a policeman puts you in some tough situations, both physically and emotionally.”

“I have 19 years left until I retire and after that I’d like to move abroad with my wife and do some more travelling. I’d like to be floating around the Americas right now.”
