Modern Mainstreamers
DEAR DIARY... 03 February 2010
We challenged members of our panel to keep a visual diary of their listening across the week asking them to take some snaps and keep note of what they are doing when they are listening to Kiss. They have painted a colourful picture of what a typical week holds for them and where, exactly Kiss fits in to make the day slightly less mundane.
SIAN ELIZABETH OWEN
I’ve never really thought about it before, but Radio seems to be one of the things that’s always around me. From waking up in the morning, needing that little extra kick to get me out of bed, to getting ready for nights, or just having something to listen to when I finally hit the pillow...
For a week I took photos of some of the different times throughout the day I found myself listening to Kiss and in a way, almost surprised myself. Kiss FM is my alarm before uni, our DJ before nights out, a companion when I’m driving, motivation in the gym and a distraction when I’m revising! The great music, both old and new, funny banter and the celebrity gossip is never ending; it’s always there, at your fingertips and if I miss something, no worries, I just go online and listen to it on the website...in fact I think I might just be a Kissaholic!
Monday morning 8am ... Waking up for uni
Whilst trying to haul myself out of bed, especially on these dark winter mornings, I always set my Radio to go off at 7 so Rickie, Melvin and Charlie can talk me out of bed and hopefully waken me up with some good tunes to start the day. This process takes on average a good hour or so but they normally manage to get me out of the door in time for class. The weekends are a different story all together...
Tuesday morning 10am... Made it to the gym
When I have no morning lectures I try and drag myself into the gym before starting the day and usually tune into Kiss FM on the little TVs on the gym equipment to keep me distracted from how much I don’t want to be there...the music also gives me that little extra boost! (the gym was clearly not very popular that day!)
Wednesday afternoon... Driving to the station
When I’m driving around I always have Kiss playing in the car, both on my own or with friends. The chat keeps me entertained when stuck in the awful London traffic and we usually end up singing (shouting) along to the tunes. Quite often I do get caught out singing along by other drivers, that’s embarrassing, especially if you can tell they are listening to the same thing. (Note to self; eyes on the road!)
Wednesday night 10pm... Student night!!
Being students we are well rehearsed at midweek parties and usually go out as often as we can handle it during the week. Whilst getting ready we usually listen to DJ Swerve to get us in the mood...and normally hassle the taxi driver to tune in too!
Thursday evening.... Uni work finally comes out
Whilst I’m doing my Uni work I like to listen to Kiss so I don’t go totally mad. I either pop the radio on or pick a show and listen to it on my laptop...Neev tends to get me through these hard times...however I do normally get sucked in by the blogs and playlists on the website and end up getting nothing done.
Saturday Night... Getting ready to go out
On Saturday nights when we’re getting ready to go out (again) we blare out Saturday Night Kiss, this normally turns into some kind of weird ritualistic dance off in the flat before we unleash ourselves on the unprepared public. We much prefer the guest DJs and new tunes to repeating the same old tracks on our ipods.
Sunday afternoon...’Down time’
Even Bob likes to listen to Kiss when we are out of the house...we always leave a radio on so he doesn’t get too lonely, it’s one of his few loves... that, and Zac Effron.
AMY JONES
Amy takes us through her week, Kiss style.
MONDAY:
I spent a two hour train journey flicking between my itunes and Kiss FM on my new ipod (I was so impressed after stumbling across the radio application!). After arriving home to my folks and the family dog for a two week long Christmas holiday away from Uni, I was confronted with unpacking my oversized suitcase. Listened to Kiss whilst unpacking what seemed like my whole bedroom from my suitcase.
TUESDAY:
Tuesday is the day where me and my best friends all get together and enjoy a night on the tiles. After catching up on all the gossip, it was time to spruce ourselves up and have our dancing shoes at the ready! All six of us are a bit tone-deaf when it comes to singing, so we switched the radio to Kiss where Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas does a much better job.
WEDNESDAY:
After a long, relaxing lie-in I decided to energise myself by getting some fresh, countryside air! After a spot of brunch I took my dog, Bonnie, for a walk while listening to the entertainment news on my phone.
THURSDAY:
Tonight I popped over to my boyfriend’s house and we ordered loads of pizza before meeting some friends. We probably shouldn’t have taken advantage of the student deals as my stomach felt like it was going to explode after we’d munched our way through a massive pizza...or two. Spent a while chilling out, listening to Kiss.
FRIDAY:
Today I cracked on with work for University. Said work involved starting to write a 10,000 word project. Instead of crying 'help!' to my computer screen I turned on a bit of music from Kiss FM online. As well as making me dance in my chair (a very difficult thing to do), the tunes kept me motivated and writing my project wasn't so bad anymore.
