MODERN MAINSTREAMER INTERVIEW 10 October 2008
Adam, 21, is one of our Modern Mainstreamers - a Kiss listener and university student. He tells us about accountancy, travelling, saving and why he’s a commitment phobe.
Internship
“I got offered a job after I finish uni during my recent internship at PWC, which is good. It’ll be another three years studying for my accountancy qualification though, which is a bit of a bummer.”
“I’ll probably take a gap year in between uni because I see working as the end of my life. I’m scared of being tied down to a job, so I’ve got to enjoy my freedom while I’ve still got it.”
Future/Career
“I never planned to be an accountant. My brother’s one, but that’s not really a good reason.”
“I want a job that can afford me the freedom to travel the world. If I work for PWC there are branches everywhere… Sydney, America… I’ll be able to experience living in other places.”
“I’m studying for a very generalised degree in business management so that I have freedom to work in different areas and, as with a job in accountancy, gain industry knowledge.”
“The chance of having a lot of money to travel and enjoy the good life motivates me to work hard.”
“I’m in a fortunate position to have a job lined up, but going into full time employment is going to be the biggest commitment that I have ever made. Perhaps that’s why I have a problem with relationships.”

Saving
“I’m quite relaxed about money but try to stow away some cash for the summer holidays.”
“I’ve reached my overdraft limit. I was on holiday over summer and didn’t have a budget which is probably why I’m in the current situation.”
“I’ve got a part time job working for a graduate recruitment company. We get paid on commission but I don’t know how much work I’ll be able to take on during my final year at uni.”
“The credit crunch is something that was mentioned a lot during my internship. The current economic climate is going to affect most people in some way.”
“Loads of my friends are applying for jobs and it’s a dodgy time to be looking for work as people are being laid off.”
Ambitions
“What I’d really like to be doing in 15 years time is living abroad with my own business. I’d have made a fortune and go travelling the seas on a massive yacht.”
