Modern Mainstreamers
HITTING THE HIGHSTREET WITH A MODERN MAINSTREAMER 11 October 2008
We took our intrepid Modern Mainstreamer Charlotte on a shopping spree in her hometown of Birmingham. Along for the ride was her friend Carla who joined us as we managed to cover most of the high street, including River Island, H&M, Top Shop and their personal favourite, Selfridges.
H&M sale – Going out tonight so we need a new outfit, but nothing too fancy. It’s only a student night at the guild!
Browsing through the rails. H&M is such a massive shop and sometimes looks like a jumble sale so I can’t always be bothered to do this, but I’ve got extra time on my hands this morning, and they do always have very good sales.
River Island and Topshop in the Bullring, Birmingham. This is where I am headed next. It’s handy that they are next to each other because these are my two favourite shops! I prefer Topshop for casual wear and denims and River Island is great for party wear and accessories – see below.
Bling!
Carla shoe shopping in Topshop. They have AMAZING shoes – Oh and 10% student discount!
Window shopping – Miss Selfridge. Trendy clothes at good high street prices.
Trying on clothes…
And belts…
Selfridges – the best shop in the world! They stock everything, including brands like Topshop and Miss Selfridge but it’s all under one roof so it saves the hassle of trekking around. It never feels like you are shopping in a department store here because the bright colours and quirky displays makes it part of the experience.
Make-up! My favourite part of Selfridges and always the highlight of the shopping trip. Getting the right look isn’t just about the clothes!
And finishing the day off with a nice cup of coffee!
