WALK TO SCHOOL WITH KISS 05 August 2009
Let's take a charming trip into the creative minds of London's pioneering musicians and artists, inspired by Kiss and performing exclusively across London's primary schools.
Recently Kiss teamed up with all the London Boroughs to promote walking to school amongst Primary school kids. We wanted to help highlight that walking to school was not only a great way to get fit and hang out with your mates but it was also a great way to help the environment. Schools were pitted against each other with the victors being the school that could persuade the highest percentage of its kids to sign up to the initiative. They were also encouraged to get their shout outs on the breakfast show. Over 150 schools got involved with thousands of pupils registering. The winning school, Vicar’s Green Primary in Ealing got a visit from Rickie, Melvin and Charlie as well as 3 lucky pupils getting the chance to appear in an exclusive Kiss podcast. Whilst putting the podcast together Kiss production staff also visited schools in all the boroughs to record shout outs and special ‘walk to school’ raps that the kids had made.
What we at Kiss found so touching was how involved the kids got. We received literally hundreds of hand made thank you and welcome cards and it was clear a huge amount of effort went into them. We’ve put a few below for you to have a look at. Also above is a short excerpt from the final podcast with some of the amazing songs and raps that the kids produced. It’s fantastic stuff and shows that there are always positive stories to be found amongst young people if you are just willing to look beyond sensationalist tabloid headlines.
