PAUL OAKENFOLD VIDEO INTERVIEW 05 July 2008
Paul Oakenfold, Kiss ambassador, is the reason the phrase superstar DJ was
invented. Check out our video interview with him.
Speaking from his studio in Los Angeles, new Kiss ambassador Paul Oakenfold
talks to us about Madonna, his music and touring with U2.
Need some background info on Oakey? Here goes...
His early career involved playing soul and hip-hop, being an agent to the
Beastie Boys and Run DMC, before a trip to the white island of Ibiza turned
his world upside down.
After experiencing Balearic beats and acid house in the sunshine, he came
back to London, bringing the sound with him and started the legendary
Spectrum night at Heaven. He then started producing music, initially under
the name Electra, before forming his own label, Perfecto.
From here, production duties for the Happy Mondays saw him pick up an NME
Best Producer Award. He formed the bang Grace, co-writing ‘Not Over Yet’
(which recently brought dance music back full circle via the Klaxon’s cover
version).
He then went on to play the main stage at Glastonbury to 90,000 people, take
a residency at Cream, among other superclubs, before making the big leap to
the USA, where he now lives and tours extensively
More recently, he released his studio album ‘Bunkka’, featuring
collaborations with Nelly Furtado, Perry Farrell, Tricky, Ice Cube and Crazy
Town for ‘Starry Eyed Surprise’ (one of those huge ‘public consciousness’
cross over records).
We could talk further about his working relationship with Madonna,
soundtracks, remixes for the Rolling Stones and Snoop, selling over five
million albums and creating the Big Brother theme tune but time is short so
here's Paul on film...
